Nigeria Immigration Suspends Comptrollers Over Seme Border ‘Extortion’

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended some comptrollers manning the Lagos-Seme border corridor of its operations, over alleged corruption.

This is even as the Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, has ordered the immediate suspension of the comptrollers overseeing the affected command.

This the immigration said, is to ensure a transparent investigation of the matter, while describing the alleged acts as unacceptable and a direct violation of the core values and operational standards of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

A statement signed by Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, said the Comptroller General has directed a thorough investigation to identify officers involved, promising appropriate disciplinary measures for those found wanting.

Reassuring the general public of its unwavering commitment to delivering professional and efficient services at all points of entry and exit, the service, said no act undermining public trust or tarnishing the integrity of the institution would be condoned.

It also implored citizens to utilise its 24-hour contact centre numbers and official social media handles, to report misconduct.

According to it, internal mechanisms are being strengthened to uphold accountability, in accordance with the service’s mission in maintaining the highest levels of discipline and professionalism across its various formations , in facilitating lawful migration.
