Defeating Terrorism: CSO Shares Open Secrets With Residents

A Civil Society Group has shared with residents, what may be described as open secrets to defeating terrorism in the country’s North-East region.

He spoke with particular appeal to residents of Borno and Yobe States.

Convener of Peace, Security Focus Group, Ismail Mohammed, shared the open secrets in a statement on Thursday, warning against continued passivity on the part of the people on issues that threaten their economic survival and personal development.

Plainly, he urged residents on best approach to defeating terrorism in the axis, saying they should actively participate in the fight.

Doing otherwise, he stated is endorsing personal tragedy.

“For too long, some insurgents have hidden among us, carrying out attacks while ordinary citizens suffer.

“This is a fight we cannot leave solely to the military. We, the residents, must take ownership to reclaim our towns, markets, and livelihoods,” he said, adding that Boko Haram and other terrorist groups were not only operating from within communities, but exploiting the fear of the people to fight back. “Every attack disrupts trade, agriculture, and small businesses.

“By providing timely information, assisting in community vigilance, and collaborating with security initiatives, we can help dismantle insurgents hiding in our midst”, he admonished the people.

“Farmers cannot harvest, traders cannot sell, and young people cannot access opportunities.

“Our economy, the backbone of North-East recovery, is at stake. If we do not act together, the cost will only grow,” he added.

“This is our home, our children, our businesses, and our future. We cannot leave this fight to others.

“Support the armed forces, share information, and refuse to give insurgents a foothold.

Together, we will protect our economy and secure a safer, more prosperous Borno for generations to come”, urging the residents on the importance of unity and collective action.
