12 Years After, Drug Kingpin Enters NDLEA’s Net

A twelve-year manhunt for a drug kingpin, Lekan Jimoh, alias Kanmo-Kanmo following his elimination of three officers, has come to a climax.

This is because the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced his arrest.

The NDLEA said Jimoh was arrested on Friday, in the Owode area of Ogun State, following intelligence-led operations by NDLEA tactical teams.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi, said a search on his hideout led to the recovery of 69 kilogrammes of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.

The drug kingpin had, on June 15, 2014, entered the NDLEA’s wanted list after he mobilised armed thugs and attacked officers mobilised to arrest him.

“Following his involvement in the brutal killing of three NDLEA officers, Kanmo-Kanmo, notorious for drug trafficking and mobilising armed thugs against security agents, was on Friday, January 16, tracked to his hideout in Owode, Ogun State, after credible intelligence. During the operation, 69kg of skunk was recovered from him.

“The arrest is a major breakthrough in our resolve to ensure that no fugitive, no matter how long they evade justice, remains beyond the reach of the law.”

According to Jimoh, had, earlier in August 2023, raided his residence in Ado-Odo, Ogun State, but could not see the suspect to arrest.

It however recovered 139 sacks of skunk weighing 1,922kg, with the property where the drug kingpin was using to store his illegal merchandise was forfeited to the Federal Government.

Other locations where the NDLEA said its operations yielded positive results were In Edo State, Abuja and Lagos.
