Disaster As Bus Conveying Pupils To School Plunges Into River

Many parents are in serious grief right now, after a bus conveying their children to school lost control, and plunged into a river

Four pupils have been confirmed dead while several others have been rescued injured.

The tragic incident has left affected families

The victims were heading to their school at nearby Ofuloko community in the Egbolo, Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State at about 8:30am when their bus lost control and plunged into a river.

The grief was overwhelming seeing sympathisers pulling out pupils from under the truck.

Protesting parents soon blocked the road blaming the disaster to the absence of a school in the area, even as an eye witness said the truck carrying building materials ferried some of the pupils to drop them at Ofuloko primary school.

Usman Idrisu, a youth leader, describing what happened said that:

“The truck could not climb the hill after it crossed the bridge and rolled backward before plunging into the river.

“We are seriously grieved in Egbolo community for the death of four of our children who died in the cause of seeking education,” he reportedly lamented.

Idrisu, according to Vanguard, said the community, despite its population, does not have a primary school, lamenting that their children have to trek a long distance to Ofuloko community to enable them get access to basic education.
