An unknown number of artisanal miners have been trapped following the collapse of mine pits where they were working

The tragic event occurred in Kadauri community, Maru Local Government Area of the state of Zamfara, The Executive Secretary of Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, ZSEMA, Ambassador Bala Ahmad said yesterday.

Ahmad could not immediately provide further details but it was learnt that  many artisanal miners were trapped following the collapse of mine pits.

The collapse was attributed to pressure from the rains that fell heavily in the area.

Our correspondent gathered from some residents that it was not easy to ascertain the number of those involved but added that they were being treated at the Maru General Hospital.
