Any Beggar Sighted In FCT Now Is A ‘Gonner’

Any beggar sighted in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) now, is a ‘goner’, following what is about to unfold in the city.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has indicated readiness to launch a major crackdown to rid the city of them.

Even Abuja satellite towns will not be spared of the impending sanitisation, being built around  “Operation Sweep Abuja”.

Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Mr Lere Olayinka, stated this much Wednesday in a statement.

Olayinka said the operation rid FCT of beggars is in accordance with the directive of Wike.

The beggars are not the only target anyway, but all others behind the different forms of nuisance, in the city, including the “one chance” syndicates.

“Our nation’s capital should be a secure symbol of pride and beauty, not a site for street beggars and scavengers, most of whom are agents of criminal elements”, Olayinka said.

“To achieve this, a Joint Task Force, comprising security agencies and relevant FCT Secretariats, Departments and Agencies, has been deployed to apprehend any persons found begging, scavenging, loitering or engaging in other acts inimical to the security and well-being of the residents”, he added.

“Arrangements have been made to profile them and hand them over to their various state governments.

“Security of lives and properties of residents of the FCT is of paramount importance to the government; we must all join hands to achieve a safer Abuja.”

In the recent, “One chance” syndicates, dubious motorists, who chance on ignorant and vulnerable passengers and kidnap them, have remained on the prowl in the city, hauling many victims.

But Wike’s recent resolve is to swoop on them, in fact, clean up the city of other associate criminals.
