Police Begins Full Enforcement of 3rd Party Insurance Policy

The Nigeria Police has begun full enforcement of 3^rd party insurance policy for vehicle owners in the country.

The force began the full enforcement from its Kaduna State command, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, has announced.

Hassan who made the announcement in a statement issued today in Kaduna, said the enforcement was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.

He said, “The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Rabiu Muhammad, has given directive for a full enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance Policy for motor vehicles from today, Feb. 1, 2025.

Last January 11, The Eagle had reported the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, giving the directive full enforcement of 3^rd party insurance policy beginning February 1, 2025.

Egbetokun spoke while receiving in his office, at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, and his team.

The IGP had underscored the importance of vehicle third-party insurance stating that Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act mandated all vehicle owners to possess third-party insurance before plying public roads.

He had also urged Nigerians to comply with the laws, as violations are punishable by imprisonment, fines, or both.

The NAICOM commissioner had also congratulated the IGP on what he described as his significant achievements, particularly the establishment of the Police Insurance Company Limited, during that visit.
