Chelsea Boss Pochettino Gives Update on James, Calls For New Signings

Following Reece James’ most recent injury at Everton, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on the player and demanded further additions in January.

The Blues’ season has been awful thus far; following two straight losses in the Premier League, they are now ranked 12th. A loss at Goodison Park, where their captain hobbled off the pitch in the first half due to an injury, was Pochettino’s team’s most recent low point. Having already missed seven games this season owing to an earlier injury, it is anticipated that the England international may miss additional games this season. Notwithstanding the fact that the team had already spent £435 million ($545 million) in the summer on players like Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Christopher Nkunku, the Argentine coach also discussed the possibility of adding substantial reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Chelsea boss Pochettino told BBC MOTD: “Football is about scoring goals and we were not clinical in front of goal. I’m really, really disappointed. We didn’t get the point we deserved. I think we were better but we didn’t get what we wanted.

“This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality. We need to talk and to try to improve in the next transfer market.”

On James’ injury, he added: “He felt something in his hamstring. It’s not so nice for him to suffer another injury. He is an important player.”

Everton’s goals in the second half from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin made sure that the Blues suffered their third defeat in the previous four Premier League games and their seventh overall. Chelsea has only won five of their 16 Premier League games this season, and they are currently in 12th place with just 19 points. West London rivals Fulham defeated West Ham 5-0 on Sunday, and they are now ahead of Chelsea.
