See New Rules That Will Finish Okada, Keke Riders In Oyo

A new set of rules is up for implementation in Oyo likely to make things for Keke riders (tricyle operators) and commercial bike riders (Okada operators) a little more challenging.

State governor, Seyii Makinde, rolled out the orders today shortly after a security council meeting, saying they were part of the bid to regulate commercial motorcycle/tricycle operations across the state

First is that they have now been mandated to enrol with the State Residents’ Registration Scheme with a deadline of December 31.

 In other words, the biometrics of keke riders as well as their Okada counterparts must be domiciled with the government to make tracking and instilling of discipline possible.

Expected to be supplied to the state government as part of this exercise are the following:

– their names,

-motorcycle registration number,

-details of next-of-kin and other critical information

-all operators must also wear reflective jackets at all times

-Failure to comply with the above, would see officials of the state government deal with such a rider.

For some time now, there have been rumours that Governor Seyi Makinde, would ban commercial Okada opera said his administration, would instead regulate their operations.

In a series of tweet mid last year, after the hammar had fallen on Okada and Keke operators in nearly Lagos, the Oyo State governor, said:

“We have no intention of banning Okada. We will regulate them, we will identify them and the criminals will be dealt with.

“I have seen people with their cars jump Okada to go to the bank. They are serving a purpose.

“We have started identity management. If we say ban because Lagos did it, what next? Those riding Okada legitimately you take them out of business”, he said.
