The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, stated that the country’s top bank intends to gradually decrease the amount of N500 and N1000 notes in circulation.

He proposed that one of the factors contributing to the nation’s rising inflation may be the abundance of larger denomination notes now in circulation.
