NECO Registrar: The Assassins Came, Killed Him, And Took Nothing Away

The Registrar/Chief Executive officer of the National Examinations Council, (NECO) Professor God wills Obioma is dead, and there is now controversy surrounding his death.

Though initial reports said he slumped and died in his bedroom in Minna, another version credited to his wife, Elizabeth is indicating otherwise.

“The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything,” wife Elizabeth has been quoted telling Peoples Gazette on Tuesday.

It has however taken his son, Prince Godswill Obioma to counter the earlier assertion, saying the NECO Registrar died after a brief illness.

 He was said to have slumped in his bedroom in Minna, Niger State yesterday after an official trip to Abuja and rushed by his wife and other relatives back to National Hospital, Abuja where he eventually gave up the ghost.

He further said: “We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development,” in a message to Mustapha K. Abdul, NECO’s director of human resources.

The late Godwills Obioma was the 7th Registrar of the Council, and it is believed that the real reason for his death would be made known in the next few days.

Obioma, a professor of educational measurement and evaluation, has just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the suspected assassins allegedly strangled him to death.

Response is being expected from the Niger State police command.

Obioma was appointed NECO registrar on May 14, 2020. he had held other important positions before  now, including being  Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council;  Director, Monitoring, Research and Statistics, National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and Director Monitoring and Evaluation Universal Basic Education Programme.

Others were Director Monitoring and Evaluation National Primary Education Commission and Head, Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology, University of Jos.
