Contractor Ignored Warnings About Cracks On 8 Storey Building That Killed 2

Survivors in the building collapse incident in Owerri, the Imo state capital have alleged that the builders were actually warned of cracks on the walls but did not stop construction.
They also alleged that aside that the pillars supporting the building insufficient, that they were actually weak for the kind of weight they were made to support.
The survivors who could not be mentioned by Vanguard, about forty workers were still allegedly trapped in the collapsed building on Yardua drive in Owerri.
At the scene of the where excavation ongoing, Vanguard said about ten people were said to have been rescued and seven severely injured and taken to hospital.
as at the time the reporter got there, rescue efforts were ongoing spearheaded by the Red Cross assisted by other kind-hearted individuals.
“I was very close to the building when I heard a crack around the pillars and I started running and before you know it it is like a sound of a bomb. The story building fell down.
“We are working in different departments I can’t count the actual number. We are many. We may be up to 40 in number. They have taken five people to the hospital. They were badly injured.”, said one survivor who simply gave his name as Prosper.
Another survivor, who goes with the name Ike, “We are up to 20 in number, we have those mixing cement. We have those pouring cement. There are plenty of people. We pray that God will help them come out alive.”
