Provost’s Cup: ND1 Defeats HND 2, 3-1…As ND 2 Draws HND 1
Excitement was written on faces of the National Diploma One students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, after they emerged 3-1 winners over their Higher National Diploma two opponents in the ongoing Provost’s Cup competition.
This year’s edition of the four-year competition which was kicked off by the Provost of the Institute, Gbemiga Ogunleye, is to hold for the next three weeks.
Philips Ubani of the ND 1 team scored a brace, while Raymond Ubani added a third. Shina Omolola scored the only goal for the final year students, and every other attempt by the HND 2 team to equalise were all futile; the freshers gave them no room.
Another match of the competition saw the ND 2 boys lock up horns with their counterparts from HND 1.
Goals in this game came from Obatobi Bada and Adeniyi Festus leaving the game on a tie at regulation time.
The two teams were left with no option than to take penalty kicks, which the third year students won by 6-5.
The HND 2 students justified the lack of coordination in their team, a weak point which their opponents capitalised on.
The ND 1 and HND 1 are to meet in the semi-final fixture, while the winner between the lecturers and Part-Time students are to square up with the ND 2.
Next Wednesday would see the ND 2 female football team clashing with HND1, while the lecturers will trade tackles with Part-Time students same day.
