
Less than a week after the National Assembly mourned the death of Umar Buba Jibril, one of its members representing Lokoja/Kogi/Koton Karfe, the Senate is again grieving as a senior lawmaker, Mustapha Bukar, has died.
Senator Bukar died in the morning of Wednesday, April 4, after a brief illness according to Daily Nigerian. At the time of this report, details about the incident were still sketchy.
It was learnt that a source in Katsina that the family of the senator had announced his demise saying he died in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. He was the Senator representing Katsina north Senatorial District in the eighth Senate. Bukar, born in Daura on December 31, 1954, was a civil engineer by training. It was learnt that the president of the Senate Bukola Saraki and the speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara expressed sadness over the death of Wakili who was the chairman of the committee on poverty alleviation at the upper chamber. Wakili died at the age of 58 and his death was confirmed by Saraki in a series of tweets to mourn his deceased colleague.
