5G Towers Set On Fire Over COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories

The conspiracy theory linking the corona virus pandemic to 5G phone masts is gaining wide acclaim as angered individuals are targeting such masts, setting them on fire.

Recall that controversial politician, Sen Dino Melaye had grabbed headlines yesterday with his allegation that 5G network has something to do with the coronavirus-related deaths – Melaye in a video that is trending on social media claims the 5G technology is responsible for deaths associated with coronavirus, adding that the reaction from this 5G has some biological interactions with our cells.

He called on all network providers to demobilise any 5G network in any part of Nigeria. “5G technology is evil, 5G technology is a killer, this technology is what is now helping to mobilise flu that comes in form of coronavirus and this is also helping to kill the immune system,” Melaye said in the video.

Elsewhere in the United Kindom, there are reports that 5G phone masts are being set alight following wide following of the online conspiracy theories.

Though such reports have been described as misleadingly a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report indicates that at least three towers were set alight last week, and police and fire services were called to extinguish the flames.

It added that rumors and conspiracy theories over a link between the rollout of 5G and the spread of coronavirus have been spread primarily through social media networks, and that a variety of groups exist on Facebook and Nextdoor, where thousands of members repeat false and misleading claims that the technology is supposedly harmful.

“One theory claims that the novel coronavirus originated in Wuhan because the Chinese city had recently been rolling out 5G. It’s now supposedly spread to other cities that are also using 5G.

“ These false conspiracy theories neglect to mention that a highly contagious virus would naturally spread more in densely populated cities with access to 5G and that the coronavirus pandemic has hit counties like Iran and Japan where 5G isn’t in use yet”.

The report, apparently refuting the belief, added that: “There is no scientific evidence that links the coronavirus pandemic to 5G, nor any immediate negative health effects to 5G.

It added that an independent fact-checking charity in the UK, had explored the claims after a British tabloid newspaper highlighted them recently.
