A viral message that quoted the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, applauding the political skills of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and insulting the military, has been denounced as fake news.
Obasanjo was cited as saying: “I am not a politician; I am a distinguished soldier, an army general, in a now-famous WhatsApp message. Visit Lagos Bourdillon if you’re seeking for a thoroughbred politician of the highest kind.

Through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo responded to the allegation by stating that he never made any remarks that denigrated his honorable military career.
According to Obasanjo, “only the military trains personnel to be good managers of men and materials. So, I cannot disparage my noble profession for politics that has no formal training. This is false and fake.”
