10 Key Political Issues That Dominated 2022

As politicians and political parties prepare for the general elections in 2023, political activities has dominated the year 2022.

Despite the difficulties presented by the electoral legislation, all of the main political parties held primaries for elections to fill various seats.

#1 2022 Electoral Act

#2 Tambuwal Speech at PDP Primary

#4 Tinubu’s ‘Emilokan Speech’

Unexpectedly, Bola Tinubu, one of the 23 candidates vying for the APC’s presidential nomination at the time, let loose and delivered that well-known speech in Abeokuta, when he announced that it was his turn to run for president.

President Muhammadu Buhari was reminded of his prior electoral setbacks before 2015 by the former governor of Lagos State.

Governor Abiodun received the “Eleyi of Eyi,” and Osinbajo was reminded of how he came to be vice president. Many believed Tinubu’s speech would be his last, but he went on to become his party’s candidate, contrary to popular belief.

#5 Tinubu’s Victory

At the Eagle Square in Abuja during the vote-counting, the names Tinubu, Asiwaju, Ahmed, Amaechi, Tinubu, Asiwaju repeated in that order. In the end, Tinubu, who had already persuaded a few rivals to withdraw for him, won the primary elections.

His 1271 votes were sufficient to defeat the vice president, the senate president, as well as a number of other individuals.

#6 Jonathan Is Coming

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was associated with the APC’s presidential ticket throughout the weeks leading up to the party’s primaries, despite not belonging to the ruling party.

The “million-man rally” is one political campaign invention in Nigeria. Different candidates’ supporters have marched in different ways to support them.

To support Mr. Peter Obi, Obidents initially organized such demonstrations; however, others have also organized similar rallies.

In 2022, the million-man rally will undoubtedly be noteworthy.

#10 Doyin Okupe’s Arrest

Doyin Okupe, the Director General of the Obi/Datti campaign, resigned during the week after being found guilty in connection with the Armed funding by a court.

Despite choosing to pay a fine, Mr. Okupe was forced to retire since his continued involvement in the campaign looks to run counter to the new order that the Obidient Movement is advocating.
