The academic Board of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has given reasons why the school postponed first semester examinations for the 2019/2020 session.

The Head of Department of Mass Communication, Mr Michael Osuji provided the reasons during an interview with our reporter.

Mr Osuji said some students could not access the portal for registration purposes in addition to issues related with Continuous Assessments.

He said, as a result, the examinations which were supposed to have started on January 20, would now begin February 3.

“We did that to really assist the students because we want to be fair. On the basis of fairness we decided to postpone the exam to give room for make-up tests for those that didn’t write the test. Fairness is the watch word”, the HOD said.

Expatiating, he said: “Some students are new and just resuming; September downwards was supposed to be the time for admission.

“Ordinarily, admission is supposed to have ended long before matriculation but generally, with the way the country is, people are not finding things easy, all the sectors of the economy are affected

“One of the effects is this late registration we are doing but conventionally, school s are supposed to stop admitting long before matriculation. It’s just an abnormal situation which all of us understand”, he said.

National Diploma students would be writing their exams in the mornings while Higher National Diploma students would write in the afternoons.

Similarly, Postgraduates students (full time and part-time) would write in the evenings.
