Why Nigerians Should Be Interested In PDP Governors’ Meeting Tomorrow

Do you know why Nigerians should be interested in a meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors  scheduled  for Bauchi on Monday?

Aside the fact that the PDP is the main opposition party in the country, it has undertaken to take up other issues of common interest to Nigerians in the meeting.

The Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF), Hon. CID Maduabum, whoi gave this indication, said the party would table and discuss such national  issues as unemployment, state of the Nigerian economy and insecurity

Speaking via a statement issued in  a statement he issued in Abuja, also of interest to the Governors’ meeting was the health of Nigeria’s democracy including the Electoral Act Amendment as well as the Constitution Alteration bills pending before the National Assembly.

According to him, the meeting would continue to interrogate the Federal Governments response to the insecurity still pervading the country and proffer workable solutions.

The Eagle reports that the issues listed for the PDP deliberation have been of great concern to Nigerians in the recent.

Even the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had observed:

“The ongoing controversy surrounding the proceedings of the national assembly gives ample evidence of the theatre of the absurd which democratic representation has become in Nigeria.

“Be it on the electoral reform, electronic transmission of electoral results, press freedom or the Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB), the work of those who represent the people on the federal level in Nigeria does not seem to bring much satisfaction to the people for whose interest they were allegedly elected”, the CAN submitted..

On the latest issue, Maduabum said that  the governors would continue to benchmark and exchange information and ideas on best practices on various aspects of governance in their respective states.

He said this was as the PDP States and their governors are currently the major beacons of light, delivering substantial democracy benefits through projects and policies impacting on the lives of Nigerians.

“The Governors will also receive Reports of some of the Committee’s working on various aspects of party repositioning including the e- Registration programme of the Party:, a NAN report quoted him as saying

Maduabum said that the Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohamed, would be the Chief Host, while the Forum Chairman, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal would presided over the meeting.
