Why Liverpool Are Handling Mac Allister Injury With Caution – Klopp 

Liverpool will need to exercise caution when managing Alexis Mac Allister’s “tricky” injury, Jurgen Klopp opened up.

Due to a knee injury sustained against Sheffield United last week, the World Cup-winning Argentina midfielder had to leave the game. He then skipped the team’s Premier League matchup with Crystal Palace and hasn’t left for Thursday’s Europa League matchup with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Mac Allister is still doubtful for their pivotal match against Manchester United, according to Klopp, who did not specify whether the injury was long-term.

Speaking to reporters, the Reds boss said: “I would like to say it’s day to day, but we have to wait until Macca can deal with the pain. It’s a bit more tricky than we thought in the first moment. The studs went through the muscle and to the bone.

“It’s painful for him and we need to make sure there’s no infection. I’ve never had this injury in one of my players before but hopefully, in the next three or four days he makes big steps.”

The Premier League leaders are already missing the services of star defender Joel Matip who sustained a season-ending ACL injury during the club’s win over Fulham. He has now successfully undergone surgery but is set to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Klopp made the decision to leave behind a number of prominent players, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah, as the club headed to Belgium for their last group-stage match. The team had already qualified for the Europa League knockout stage.

They play a key Premier League match on Sunday against their bitter rivals, Manchester United.
