Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s manager, has been astounded by the “resilience” his squad has displayed in ascending to the top of the Premier League.

Since taking over as Tottenham coach in the summer, the Australian has led an incredible turnaround. His team is still unbeaten in the league and top of the table after eight games, ahead of Arsenal on goals scored.

Spurs managed to move up the table despite losing star striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich before the current season began, even though they finished ninth in the Premier League previous year.

Postecoglou is pleased with the growth of his team, which has been strengthened by the additions of captain Son Heung-min, summer arrivals James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Pedro Porro.

However, he says there is still room for improvement, particularly in attack, as he told Sky Sports: “When you talk about a transformation, we have a lot of new players in, a new manager, a new way of playing, that kind of shift is always going to take some time. To be honest, that part our game is still the area that has the most improvement in it, the attacking side of our game – we can be even more aggressive in the way we play and create even more opportunities.

“But I would balance that up in the tremendous resilience we’ve shown and the defensive solidity we’ve had considering we’ve had a totally new back line and a new midfield set-up. So it’s kind of a balancing act these things of wanting to be this kind of team, but also understanding you have to build some other aspects of the side.

“At the moment we are juggling that pretty well, but I still think when we become the team I want us to become, that is the area we still have the most improving to do in – the attacking areas.”

When Spurs face Fulham on Monday, they will look to maintain their unblemished start to the Premier League season.
