The ability to run past defenders onto through balls gives strikers a significant advantage, while defenders must have a good turn of speed to stay up.

Speed at a distance is only one tool in a player’s toolbox; they also need strength, fitness, game awareness, and ball-handling ability. However, a successful sprinter has a firm foundation on which to build.

6. Allan Saint-Maximin – 35.7 km/h

For Newcastle United, the star Frenchman has been a priceless asset. Saint-Maximin has incredible speed and endurance, which enable him to run at great rates during the last seconds of games. He achieved a high speed of 35.7 km/h and finished sixth in the Premier League 2022–23 for speed.

The 25-year-old has the ability to outwit defenders one-on-one before accelerating fluidly to advance and score a goal. The manager has been able to use him as a crucial outlet in the wings because to his ability to accelerate in a matter of seconds.

5. Denis Zakaria 36.09 km/h

Fifth on the list is Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria who hit a top speed of 36.09 km/h.

Zakaria is a strong and energetic midfielder who is robust in the tackle and a fine passer of the ball. He rose to prominence in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach, where he was most often deployed in a defensive midfield role.

4. Erling Haaland 36.22 km/h

Having clocked a top speed of 36.22 km/h, Erling Haaland has emerged as one of the quickest strikers in the history of the game.

The Manchester City goal machine is freakishly quick for a player his size, and he rarely gives the ball away while charging towards goal.

3. Darwin Nunez 36.53 km/h

Since joining the Anfield outfit in the summer, Nuñez has certainly proved to be in interesting addition to the club and to the Premier League itself. Although the Uruguayan has yet to fully establish himself as the Reds’ starting centre-forward, he has already demonstrated his attacking threat.

Nuñez had set a new Premier League speed record, hitting a top speed which was initially reported as 36.53 km/h, more than  Kyle Walker.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker is often considered the fastest player in the Premier League after he hit a top speed of 37.8 km/h in the 2019-20 season, though the England international may have lost a few yards in the intervening years.
