Quique Seiten’s managerial career at Barcelona has begun on a good note, following a victory over Granada at Camp Nou 1:0 on Sunday night.

Against Granada, he deployed a 4-3-3 formation with Sergio Roberto, Samuel Umtiti, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba the four players in defence.

The trio of Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic were in midfield, while  Ansu Fanti, Lionel Messi and Antonio Griezmann plied upfront with the German Andre Ter Stergen in goal

Barcelona started the game on a high, they were all over Granada dominating and controlling the game, but they could not produce a goal in the first half as Granada held their own all through the 45 minutes.

The game continued in the same fashion for Seiten’s men as they were still pressing high and dominating possessions. Barcelona had 83% of the possession, while Granada had 17% of the possession. Barcelona’s chances of scoring increased when German Sanchez was shown a second yellow card and Granada were reduced to 10 men.

It got better for Barcelona as they opened scoring seven minutes after Granada were shown a red card via a lovely finish from Lionel Messi.

At that point, Granada had no chance of a comeback as Barcelona were in total dominance. The game ended 1 nil at the end of proceedings in favor of Barcelona.

Seiten showed glimpses of what Barcelona are known for, playing with high intensity and dominating play thereby making their opponents chase the ball for 90 minutes. It was a good day in the office for the Spainard manager but he has to be consistent if he surely wants to stay long at the club which remains to be seen.

Nigeria’s Ramon Azeez featured in the game for Granada, but he was substituted in the 56th minutes for Yangel Herrera. Quique Seiten would be high on confidence after the win because a win for a newly appointed manager is vital.

Seiten, former Real Betis manager, was appointed May 2017 on a three year deal.

He led the team to a sixth place finish in his first season thereby securing a qualification to the UEFA Europa League. He announced he would leave the club on 19 May 2019 after his second year.

He became Barcelona’s manager on 13 January 2020, replacing Ernesto Valverde after he was sacked by the club.

Before his appointment became a reality, he was linked to the club in January 2019 but it did not happen.
