Revealed: Benzema, Espírito Santo Involved In Heated Dressing Room Brawl
Prior to the manager’s Al-Ittihad dismissal, there was allegedly a furious altercation in the dressing room between Karim Benzema and Nuno Espírito Santo.
Espirito Santo and star player Karim Benzema got into a furious fight that ended with the manager leaving the team, according to a startling disclosure made by the Saudi Arabian outlet Al Riyadiah.
Despite boasting a star-studded roster, including former Ballon d’Or winner Benzema and ex-Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante, Al-Ittihad suffered a 2-0 loss in the AFC Champions League against Iraqi side Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. The incident reportedly occurred at half-time with Ittihad trailing 1-0, when Espirito Santo reprimanded Benzema, suggesting he was “lazy” in his play.
“You are a great player, but it seems that you are too lazy to put pressure on your rival,” told the tactician to the forward according to Al Riyadiah.
“Don’t just talk to me, talk to the whole group,” Benzema responded.
The conversation went on as Espirito Santo emphasised Benzema’s value as a team captain and athlete and urged him to set an example for others.
According to the report, Benzema allegedly told the club’s board that Espirito Santo’s management was impeding the team’s success, which led to the development of difficulties surrounding the manager’s role.
Espirito Santo was eventually fired as a result of the disagreement, and rumours have it that they are now considering their possibilities for a new manager. It is rumoured that Laurent Blanc, the former manager of Lyon, could take over. Zinedine Zidane has also been contemplated, although he has not yet accepted any offers.
Benzema will return to action against Abha in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
