Pregnant A Second Time, 16-Year Old Girl Thrown Out

For getting pregnant a second time, a 16 year old Senior Secondary (SS) 1 girl of a school in Badagry Lagos has been thrown out by her parents.

Olubunmi Ogunsola (not real names), had already been registered for the next Senior Secondary examination before she allowed herself to be impregnated.

Her distraught parents, who are established members of a leading Pentecostal church in the country, could not put up with the shame and decided to drive her out of the house.

A reliable family source told The Eagle that the mother, a church worker, had already been suspended from her duty post in the church on account of the incident.

According to the source, the first time this happened, Olubunmi got the beating of her life, and lost other privileges.

For example, the mother distanced herself from any obligation to the girl that came from that pregnancy while warning Olubunmi to be careful.  

As at the time of filing this report, we reliably learnt that her whereabouts had become uncertain.

Our correspondent learnt that Olubunmi could have gone to stay with the elder sister, but the latter does not yet have a sustainable means of income and could not afford a liability where she currently puts up.

As at the time of filing this report, it was not clear who the man who put Olubunmi in the family way is.

Teenage pregnancy will most likely result in single parenting, whereby a single parent, usually the mother, raises the child alone and sadly, the young individual will be raised without a male figure which is extremely important for the child’s development as this defect can result in behavioral and antisocial problems later in life.

According to experts, male attention, peer pressure, curiosity about sex as well as potential neglect are factors that could lead to teenage pregnancy. Sometimes too, girls are taken advantage of by male driven to high sexual desires by a combination of factors
