National Action Group Reacts To Osun Political Crisis

The National Action Group (NAG), a political pressure group built on the philosophy and ideas of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has reacted to the festering Osun political crisis.

It has described the development as worrisome and unacceptable, putting the safety and security of ordinary citizens at risk.

The NAG which made its feelings known through a press release signed by its National Chairman , Dr. Olusanya Awosan, condemned in the strongest terms the actions of all parties involved, saying these have contributed to present volatile environment in the state.

“The apparent disregard for the rule of law, the use of inflammatory rhetoric, and the prioritisation of political power over the well-being of the people are deeply troubling and have no place in a democratic society”, it said in the release.

According to it, Governor Ademola Adeleke and Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola should prioritise the safety and security of the people above all else, engage in constructive dialogue, de-escalate tensions, and also seek a swift and amicable resolution of the Osun political crisis through legal and constitutional means.

While calling on the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), as a guardian of the rule of law, to urgently intervene in this matter, NAG said the NBA should do this by exploring all legal avenues to prevent further escalation, and  need ensure the safety and security of the people of Osun State, especially being guardians of the rule of law.

“The situation in Osun State is a stark reminder of the fragility of peace and the importance of responsible leadership.

“We urge all stakeholders to embrace dialogue, respect the rule of law, and work together to restore peace and stability to Osun State.

“The time for political gamesmanship is over; the well-being of the people must come first”, the group said, while expressing its readiness to support all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful and lasting solution to the crisis.
