Nasarawa State to offer automatic employment to the physically challenged graduates

Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Special Education, Science and Technology, says the physically challenged graduates are to get automatic employment in the state civil service henceforth.

Ayuba, who gave this assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Friday, said automatic employment was one of the government’s measures aimed at alleviating their suffering.

He, however, said that government’s action would make it possible to choose the best and the brightest from the physically challenged persons for placement.

“Could you believe that in the recent interview of the recruited special education teachers in the state, the best candidate was a physically challenged woman.

“We have their academic records in the ministry; those who were not recruited as teachers in the special school interview will be employment as administrative staff,” he added.

The commissioner said that the government was currently paying registration fees for all the physically challenged indigenes studying in secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.

“We have some of them studying in the universities, colleges of education and polytechnics among others.

“The governor has approved and paid more than seven million naira as their registration fees through the ministry,” he added.

Ayuba added that the State Government was also planning to empower the physically challenged citizens willing to acquire various skills as well as train others in school.

The commissioner, therefore, charged  the physically challenged to take their studies serious in order to justify the government investment in them.
