My Strategic Plan For Unilag Is.. – Vice Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG)- Professor Folasade Ogunsola, has spoken about his strategic plan for the university, going forward.

Addressing graduands and parents at the institution’s 53rd convocation ceremony at its Akoka campus today, Ogunsola said said part of it was to make the Institution,Produce thinkers that will be products of New Knowledge, Innovation and Fit-for-Purpose human capital.

“As a Country, we need to remember the centrality of the University for national development.
“My Strategic plan is to make UNILAG future-ready, yielding inquiry minds, discoveries, sound character and a globally impactful workforce; while addressing the developmental needs of today, which are centred on ten core goals. ”

In his address, the Visitor to the University, President Muhammadu Buhari(GCFR) said the Federal Government was not unaware of the challenges facing Nigerians, and the need to continue producing manpower to solve them.

Buhari who was represented by Dr. Chris Mayaki-Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), said the Federal government recognised the Place of Intellectuals in the Society and would continue to Partner with them,in making lives better of Nigerians.

An M.Sc graduate of Urban and Regional Planning, Segun Fatola, responding to our reporter’s questions, said he was very happy to achieve the milestone despite the Challenges faced while doing the Programme.

He mentioned the COVID -19 pandemic as well as the Eight- month Industrial action embarked upon, by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as some of the challenges.

A Parent-Demola Olutunsin could not contain his joy seeing his daughter bag a Post-graduate degree in Accounting Education.

The University conferred 2,251 students with Various degrees made up of 67 Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,119 Masters and 65 Doctorate degree
Some Senior Academic Staff were awarded the University of Lagos Gold Medal Honorary Awards.
