Lewandowski Reacts To Winning Ballon D’Or, Compares Barca to Bayern

After moving from Bayern Munich to Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski has believed that his prospects of winning the Ballon d’Or have improved.

The Poland international moved from Bayern Munich to Barcelona for €50 million (£42 million/$51 million) in the summer, and he has since been a complete success for his new team, tallying 11 goals in eight games across all competitions. He still has his sights set on winning his first Ballon d’Or, and he thinks that representing Barcelona would help him achieve that goal.

While representing Poland at an international press conference, Lewandowski stated, “I know that Barcelona are a team where the most players have won it.

“I think the path is shorter from Barcelona than from Bayern (Munich).”

Lewandowski came within a hair’s breadth of winning the Ballon d’Or in 2021, but Lionel Messi won his record-extending seventh Golden Ball. But if he keeps up his performance at Camp Nou, the 34-year-old will be among the contenders this year and hopes to be there as well in 2022.

He has once again been named one of the 30 contenders for the 2022 award, but it is unclear whether he will succeed Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, who is widely considered the favorite.

The forward’s subsequent international match will be on September 23 against the Netherlands and September 26 against Wales in the Nations League, respectively.
