Kidnappers Abduct 70 year-Old Lawyer, Demand N100million Ransom
There is fear and anguish in the hearts of family members and well-wishers of Ekiti-based legal practitioner, Mr Adeola Williams, following his abduction on Sunday night by kidnappers at Erio-Ekiti in Ekiti west local government area of Ekiti.
Also abducted with him were, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the Ekiti State University, his mother, immediate elder sister and wife.
The incident happened while the lawyer and his family were returning from Osogbo, in his Toyota Pathfinder where they had gone for a ceremony.
According to the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ikole-Ekiti branch, Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju, 10 heavily gunmen had stopped them at a corner, around 6pm but his mother, immediate elder sister and wife were all abducted, but were released except the lawyer with the instruction that they should go and raise N100million to secure his release.
70 year old Williams is the Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA) Ikole -Ekiti branch.
The Eagle learnt that the NBA, Ikole-Ekiti branch executives, had convened an emergency meeting where they appealed to on all practising lawyers in the state to henceforth boycott all court sitting until their colleague was released.
He said that the association is intensifying efforts on how to raise the sum to assist their learned colleague in the den of the kidnappers.
In a twist however, the victim promptly called to appeal to his colleagues not to embark on the boycott as his kidnappers had threatened to kill him should the boycott hold.
The members and the family are now in a dilemma on how best to handle the matter.
The Eagle correspondent was told by a competent source that the police was already on the matter, but without disclosing details.
