Getafe To Sign Greenwood Replacement As Transfer Race Hot For Man Utd Forward

Getafe is reportedly considering other options to take Mason Greenwood’s place, as other teams have expressed interest in the Manchester United forward.

The hopes of the La Liga team to retain Greenwood for an additional season are in jeopardy. According to The Sun, they are therefore considering a deal for Umar Sadiq, a Nigerian striker for Real Sociedad. Two years ago, the 27-year-old sustained a serious ankle injury that has affected his on-field performance. Imanol Alguacil, the manager of Sociedad, has chosen to prioritise other attacking alternatives like Portugal’s Andre Silva and Sheraldo Becker over Sadiq because the player has only managed to score three goals in 36 games throughout La Liga, the Spanish Cup, and the Europa League this season.

Greenwood has been a key player for Getafe since joining the club on loan from United. Club president Angel Torres recently discussed Greenwood’s situation in an interview with Radio Marca, expressing optimism about the player’s desire to stay “until at least January.” But their interest in Sadiq show that they are already preparing for life without the English forward in their ranks.

A number of teams are reportedly interested in signing Greenwood, including Barcelona, Atletico, Napoli, Juventus, and an unidentified Saudi Arabian team that is rumoured to be willing to pay more than £50 million (€58 million/$62 million). United would prefer a permanent transfer over a second loan move and will pay roughly €60 million (£51 million/$64 million).

Greenwood, along with teammates Diego Rico and Borja Mayoral, is a nominee for La Liga’s Team of the Season after scoring ten goals for Getafe in all competitions this season. On Saturday, in the penultimate game of the season, he will return to action against Alaves.
