Former Konga CEO, Imudia, Plunges From Balcony And …

Former Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Konga, a popular e-commerce firm, in the country, Nick Imudia has taken a plunge from the balcony of his house, leading to disaster.

He took the plunge from his apartment located in the Lekki area of Lagos State on the evening of Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The news of his suicide has since sent shock waves in the e-commerce industry, with many wondering the trigger..

There are however reports from other media platforms that the plunge followed a call to the United States of America (USA) where the late CEO has a brother

He had reportedly enquired from the brother of his, instructions how to distribute his wealth.

The report said: “Before making the jump, he had called his US-based brother to give him instructions on how to distribute his wealth should anything happen to him.

“He also called his young daughter from a previous relationship and told her he would always be there for her and that all she needed to do was to look in the sky and he would see her.

“His friends, family and associates are in shock as to why he would commit suicide.

No one is sure why the former Konga CEO took his own life.

“From the Ika South local government area of Delta State, Nick was previously married to the mother of his young daughter who was also from the same local government with him. The marriage ended due to irreconcilable differences.”

The Former Konga CEO, had had stints with TCL/Alcatel as a regional director and Microsoft Device and Services as the GM/MD for West and Central Africa.

According to a post on an online platform, TheWill, friends, family and associates of Imudia are still in shock as to why he would commit suicide.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the case to our correspondent on Thursday.

According to Nigeria Health Watch, approximately 700,000 people commit suicide annually, excluding the figure for people who attempt suicide yearly.

The tragedy involving the Former Konga CEO has refocused attention to the issue of suicides globally.

The World Health Organisation (WHO), says there are at least 20 unsuccessful attempts for every completed suicide. In Nigeria, the age-standardised suicide rate was 6.9 per 100,000 population in 2019, across both sexes, however, male suicide rates were higher at 10.1 per 100,000 population. Meanwhile, Lesotho has the highest suicide rate in Africa at 87.5 per 100,000 population in 2019.

“While the link between suicide and mental disorders (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) is well established in high-income countries, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness.

“In addition, experiencing conflict, disaster, violence, abuse, or loss and a sense of isolation are strongly associated with suicidal behaviour.

“Suicide rates are also high amongst vulnerable groups who experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants; indigenous peoples; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) persons; and prisoners. By far the strongest risk factor for suicide is a previous suicide attempt”, the WHO says..
