Christmas Day Shooting Of Female Lawyer: Police Arrest Culprit

Demand for justice for the victim of the Christmas day shooting that claimed the life of female lawyer in Ajah Lagos, may be on course to succeeding.

This is because the culprit has been arrested by the police.

An Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to Ajah Division, his arrest has just been confirmed by police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Also, others connected with the shooting, it has emerged, would also shortly be arrested.

“Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody.

“They are to be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigations,’’ Hundeyin stated.

The Eagle had, in an earlier story on the matter, reported that the victim, Mrs Bolanle Raheem, was driving home with her four children on board, on Christmas evening after attending a Christmas Church service when the shooting took place.

It happened at the at the Ajah bus stop in Lagos.

It was one news that hit many like a thunderbolt, happening on Christmas day, when people were celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

It quickly threw the community into confusion, even as the cop immediately fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alabi, has reportedly given his assurance that justice would prevail on the matter.

There were accounts that the police were trying to flag the lawyer down around 11 am while she was negotiating a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when the ASP allegedly shot at her vehicle and the bullet hit her.

She was taken to hospital but pronounced dead.

The Eagle reports that there had been many similar cases of police shooting and killing civilians, sometimes in very unfortunate circumstances.

This has tended to create a level of civilian suspicion on the very force that supposed to enjoy their confidence.
