By UTHMAN ORIYOMI.
Breaking – Landlords hosting students of higher institutions in Ibadan may be demanding COVID-19 tests from returning students before readmitting them,
This was a major fallout of a town and gown meeting of The Polytechnic Ibadan, on Monday, and which was attended by several stakeholders.
The Eagle reports that though it was one of them, Mr Falade Ajadi who urged the school authorities to speak to the Oyo State government to consider organisating COVID-19 tests on returning students, he seemed to have spoken the minds of other landlords.
According to him, pre-readmission tests would not only establish the health status of each returning student, but also reassure other tenants while also helping in the efforts at checkmating the further spread of the virus.
Speaking earlier, the Rector Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, said the essence of the meeting was to re-emphasise the importance role that the landlords were playing in the school as a critical stakeholder, and their importance in stopping further spread of corona virus.
He said the polytechnic authority was ready for suggestions from the house owners on the possible steps to take towards ensuring the safety of the students when they resume as resumption is at the corner.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Sikiru Adetona Ajibola, said safety precautions had already been laid down for the students to follow in school and outside but that it was also important to sensitise them ahead of time
