Ballon D’or 2023: Messi Beat Haaland, Mbappe To Claim Eight Golden Ball

As the Inter Miami star, Lionel Messi picked up yet another individual prize in Paris, the rest of the 30-man shortlist learned their final positions in the voting.

Following a 2022–23 season in which he finally lifted the trophy that had eluded him throughout his illustrious career—the World Cup—the Argentina and Inter Miami forward accepted his seventh Ballon d’Or on Monday, October 30 at a sumptuous ceremony in Paris.

As the most outstanding player of the competition, Messi was able to win the Golden Ball in Qatar 2023. He defeated rivals Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who had also assisted Paris Saint-Germain in winning another Ligue 1 championship during the campaign.

Messi won the Golden Ball at Qatar 2023 as the tournament’s best player, and having also helped Paris Saint-Germain win another Ligue 1 title over the course of the campaign, he was able to beat out competition from the likes of Erling Haaland and former team-mate Kylian Mbappe for the award.
