Backup Plan For Mbappe? Real Madrid To Target Bayern’s Musiala

Real Madrid have their eyes on Bayern Munich talent Jamal Musiala, should a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe fall through once again.

The Frenchman has been linked to a summer transfer to the Spanish powerhouses for what seems like forever, and last week, new claims surfaced claiming he had forfeited substantial loyalty payments to make the move possible. Though it seems there is a backup plan in place should Mbappe stay in Paris past next summer, Madrid quickly denied the allegations.

Bayern starlet Musiala is reportedly a target for Los Blancos, according to Bild. The German powerhouses have reportedly said to raise the 20-year-old’s current wage to approximately €8 million (£7 million/$8.6 million) annually if he doesn’t sign an upgraded contract. The Germany international is seen by Pep Guardiola as the successor to Kevin De Bruyne, but Madrid believes they have an advantage because they have Jude Bellingham, who used to be Musiala’s flatmate when they were both in the England youth team.

Musiala finished second in the coveted Kopa Trophy competition last season, behind only the outstanding Bellingham, with a career-high 29 goal contributions in 47 games.

However, the report emphasises that Mbappe will still be Madrid’s top target come summertime. Musiala’s transfer will also affect Bayern, as CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen previously stated that the team “would do well to keep him with us for as long as possible.”
