Aso-Oke – There Is Need To Preserve Our Cultural Wears And Traditions

Asooke has been from the donkey’s years, and its refurbishment has caused some Nigerians to opine that it’s a trendy wear.

Mr Owolabi Daniel, speaking on the relevance of the material over the years, said nothing had changed and that aso-oke would remain relevant for more years to come.

Referring on the relegation of Nigerian wears and lifestyles including aso-oke, he said nothing would wipe off the place of aso-oke.

He said Nigerians have allowed themselves to be deceived by Europeans who relegate Nigerian cultures and lifestyles, saying Nigerians should not be fooled.

He said that Nigerians eyes were covered with veil and they couldn’t see how the white had come again to enslave us in disguise that they were promoting our culture in the market place.

Aderemi Ifabayo, a traditional worshipper, said that Asooke being a native wear of the Yoruba people was one of the best wear in the olden days appreciated by everyone.

He said  during Odu Ifa festival the white people came around to learn how Asooke was made using cotton, and usually appreciate the uniqueness of the fabric

Ayorinde pelumi said that Yorubas should appreciate and wear their traditional wears to preserve their cultural heritages urging the mass media to also help in preserving such values.
