The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have decided to shield their swords going forward.
This followed an olive branch extended to the ruling party in the state, represented by His Excellency the Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike
The Eagle learnt that the APC finally accepted in shielding their sword to work with the PDP, in order to restore peace in the state.
The party also considered that fence-mending at the point in time would help to checkmate the challenge of insecurity in the state.
The rapprochement resulted to a press conference lead by Senator Andrew Uchendu and Chris Finebone of APC on Monday 29 April in Port Harcourt.
Out reporter gathered that after being convinced that the governor’s offer was a genuine one, that the APC counterpart agreed to it, in the interest of peace and public order.
The two parties also reasoned that this would help in putting Rivers back on the path of good governance, rather than rancor.
Senator Andrew urged Wike to adopt the same system ex governor, Rotimi Amechi used in his tenure to tackle insecurity and decayed infrastructure in the State.
Recall also that in his capacity as the minister of Transportation, Amechi , in his Easter message, had made a case for the extension of the olive branch, where he reiterated that Rivers State had suffered enough, and then urged the people of the State to be more devoted in making necessary sacrifice, for the restoration of peace in the land.
