Amusement Park Horror: 180ft Ride With Fun-seekers Collapses Mid Action

A Christmas fairground – amusement park – has been cordoned off by the police after its 180ft ride collapsed, dropping to ground level while in operation.

The accident saw 11 people being rushed to hospital with two women reportedly injured.

Fire fighters rushed to the scene at Centenary Square, near the library in Birmingham at 7.30pm as reports of the amusement park accident reached them.

It is reputed as one of the tallest rides around, and has become an attraction because it provides a panoramic view of the surrounding neighboured, an offering that fun-seekers relish.

Unfortunately, it dropped to ground level while still in use, the authorities forced to close the facility and the management turning off all the neon lights that had all along been an excitement

A report referencing the West Midlands Ambulance Service said 11 other patients were assessed and discharged at the scene of the accident.

There were also reports of rescue teams helping those injured, with evidences of smashed parts of the ride, tangled seats, and bent railings all around.

The BBC reported sighting the injured, adding:

‘Two women, were treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

‘Nine women and three men were assessed by medics before being given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.’

The report also quoted a West Midlands Police spokesperson said: ‘We currently have officers in Centenary Square, Birmingham following reports of an issue with one of the rides.

‘A small number of people are being treated at the scene by paramedics – but no serious injuries have been reported.

‘Centenary Square remains cordoned off this evening while we support our emergency service colleagues. Please avoid the area.’

West Midlands Fire Service said: ‘At approximately 1930 on Thursday 12th December we responded to an incident at Victoria Square outside the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham.

The exact number of those injured was yet to be ascertained even as relevant agencies try to secure the facility.
