Former member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) rerun primary for Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in Plateau State, polling 12,181 votes against his challenger’s 2,495.
The result was announced on Thursday at the APC secretariat, Kalwa House, in Jos, by the chairman of the rerun election planning committee, Simon Karu Elisha.
The exercise was conducted in 11 wards following a court order over irregularities recorded during the earlier primary election.
The affected wards were Du, Shen, Zawan ‘B’, Turu, Fobur ‘A’, Fobur ‘B’, Jarawan Kogi, Mai Juju/Doss, Federe, Shere East and Shere West.
Speaking to supporters at his residence in Jos after the result was announced, Bagos thanked party members and constituents in Jos South and Jos East for standing by him throughout the contest.
He called on APC members and supporters to put their differences aside and work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
“This victory is not for me alone; it is a victory for all of us and a responsibility to work together for the development of our constituency,” he said.
Bagos also warned supporters against insulting or provoking those who contested against him, saying political disagreements should not damage relationships among people in the constituency.
“Politics should not divide us because after the election, we will still remain brothers and sisters,” he said.
He urged his supporters to celebrate the result with humility, adding that winning the party primary was only one stage of the political process ahead.
“We have won the primary, but there is still a bigger task ahead of us,” he said.
The former lawmaker also commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what he described as the development strides recorded by his administration.
Bagos calls for continued peace and unity in the state, urging his supporters to focus on the welfare of residents and the work ahead of the 2027 elections.
