Is Gambia-based 35-year-old Nigerian national, Audu Williams complicit in the death of his girlfriend, Esther Tango?

Well, this is the riddle that the authorities in that country is now neck-deep in unveiling and for which reason it has arrested the Nigerian.

Tango’s body was found in a bush between Kitty and Siffoe villages in the West Coast Region, with the police saying it has picked up Williams in connection with the case.

The Gambia Police Force disclosed this in a statement obtained on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to the police, the victim’s body was discovered on July 7, 2026, amidst a conflict of identities.

“The victim, initially unidentified and commonly known as ‘Jessica,’ was positively identified as Esther Tango, a 41-year-old Nigerian national, following intensive investigations by detectives of the Suba Ward CID Unit, supported by the Crime Scene Investigation Team,” the police said.

“Her identity was confirmed after investigators recovered her Nigerian passport during a search of her residence in Brikama.”

Investigators had used witness interviews, crime scene examination, and telecommunications records to identify Williams as a person of interest before inviting him for questioning, the police said.

“During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the offence. Preliminary findings indicate that he allegedly lured the deceased to Kitty on the night of July 6, 2026, where the fatal incident occurred before abandoning her body at the scene,” the statement added.

“The suspect has since been cautioned and remains in police custody. He will be charged and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of The Gambia upon the conclusion of the investigation”, the statement added.
