In the aftermath, 15 persons all males, out of a total number of 48 people, lay dead, with others sustaining different kinds of injuries, from bruises to dislocation to fracture.
The least was that the heavy loads scattered everywhere around the spot of accident: the Muslim cemetery, along Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo route on Ilorin-Jebba expressway, Kwara State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said in a report that the fatal crash, occurred in the wee hours of Monday at about 2:32 am.
Not only was the trailer overladen with loads, the owners of those loads still found places inside to hitch rides.
But worse, was at that point in the journey, the driver fell to the dictates of nature, fell asleep, leaving the lorry in control of itself.
The result: the long truck detached from its head while all the loads fell off on the owners.
Confirming the narratives, the FRSC sector commander, Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem, who gave the name of the driver as Nasiru Mohammed, added that the corpses had been handed over to the representatives of the families and Sarkin Hausawa, Oko Olowo, in the Moro local government area of Kwara State .

The injured victims had been taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital, he said.
Meanwhile rescue operation by a joint team of RS8.15 Oloru and RS8. 1 Kwara (Oko Olowo outpost) was still on, given light that some of the victims still lay buried under the load.
The latest incident has underscored for the FRSC in the axis of need for more public enlightenment campaigns, the FRSC sector commander himself added.
