After police arrest of the landlord of an off-campus hostel following the death of a female nursing student, who was a-tenant there, what is next?
The question becomes important given the gravity of the incident as well as the reoccurring nature of the crimes.
A 23-year-old nursing student was found dead in the off-campus hostel in Alor, a community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State .
Identified as Vivian Chilaka, and an ND II student at College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, was found dead on 14 June, triggering speculations.
These were worsened when a video clip apparently recorded when she was found dead showed pots found slightly squeezed , a small bloodstained knife in front her room a few steps away from the spot where her body was found, and also a bloodstained stick.
There were many suggestions as to the actual cause of her death, amidst indications she may have struggled with an unknown party leading to her death.
Videos recordings also show people already reacting to the death of the female nursing student.
“See where she is lying lifeless. She clearly struggled unsuccessfully for her life,” said one of those caught in the video obviously discussing the circumstances of her death.
More profound in the speculations is that there had been prolonged intense pressure from her landlord who allegedly and unsuccessfully sought to be in a romantic relationship with her.
The police spokesperson in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement stating:

“Police operatives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on the deceased’s thigh, other visible marks of violence on her body and blood stains around the scene, suggesting that she may have been murdered,” he said.
According to the police spokesperson the landlord of the premises has been arrested and was being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigations.
“The body of the deceased has been deposited in a hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” he said, adding that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered officers to expedite action on the investigation into the suspected murder.
The police has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation, and the case transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka.
The public await the outcome of the police investigations days after the incident.
