The Federal Government will today arraign former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva and five others over alleged coup and conspiracy to overthrow the government of the federation.
The suspects include two retired senior military officers and a serving police inspector, and they appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Sylva, also a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, is allegedly on the run.
Other defendants are:
i. retired Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana,
ii. retired Naval Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor,
iii. Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru,
iv. Bukar Kashim Goni and
v. Abdulkadir Sani

They appearedbefore Justice Joyce Abdulmalik to face 13 counts bordering on conspiracy, attempt to commit treason, terrorism, failure to disclose security intelligence, financing terrorism and money laundering.
The charge was filed on Monday by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo , a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Their alleged offences included not just plot to overthrow the government but also, also failure to report alleged knowledge of a planned treasonable act, and terrorism-related financing.
