An enhanced widow of travel opportunities via eVisas may have opened for Nigerians following an announcement by UK Visas & Immigration.

It has said that all new United Kingdom visit visas issued to Nigerians will become fully digital from 25 February 2026.

It stated this in a released in Abuja today.

According to the release, Nigerian nationals applying for a UK visit visa will no longer receive the traditional vignette sticker placed inside their passports.

Instead, they would receive an electronic visa –eVisa – accessible through an online immigration account.

The British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Gill Lever, while reacting to the latest development, said the move would simplify travel procedures for Nigerians.

She said it would also reduce reliance on paper documentation while maintaining security standards.

She added that the United Kingdom remains open to Nigerian visitors, students and workers, noting that applicants would need to create a free online account after approval to access their eVisa.

This is even as the statement added that applicants would still need to satisfy all eligibility requirements, like complete the process online, visit a visa application centre to provide biometric information and satisfy all eligibility requirements.

The only difference is the format in which the visa is issued.

The latest move is part of the UK Government’s transition to a fully digital border management system.

It allows travelers to hold and present their immigration status electronically, even as the visas of by the notice, Nigerians who currently possess valid vignette stickers remain valid until their expiry dates.

The new digital process is expected to speed up passport return after processingfor travelers.
