Sanwo-Olu Takes Immediate Action Over School Building Collapse

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken an immediate and proactive action over a school building collapse incident in Ikorodu area.

No lives were lost in the Thursday evening incident at Odokekere High School, Ikorodu but the governor has ordered the immediate relocation of pupils.

Panic ran through the Odo-Kekere community, when a loud crack and dust clouds rose in the atmosphere, immediately attracting the intervention of first responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) .

They quickly cordoned off the area. Preliminary reports confirmed that no students, staff, or security personnel were trapped in the rubble.

The Principal of the school, Mr. J.T. Olaniyan, while narrating what happened said it was a temporary classroom that gave way.

Confirming the incident, the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) said:

“SCRPS received with shock the news of the bungalow classroom collapse at Odokekere High School. The state government regrets the incident, but no casualties were recorded, and all students are safe.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate relocation of pupils to nearby schools to avoid disruption to their academic activities. SCRPS officials will assess the situation on-site to enable prompt construction of an ultra-modern classroom block.”
