Police Arrests 8 Pro-Yoruba Republic Agitators

Eight pro-Yoruba Republic agitators are now cooling off with the police following their arrest for breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and serious assault on police officers .

The Ogun State Police Command said the suspects were arrested on Christmas Day, at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge, Sango-Ota area of Ogun State, agitating under the aegis of “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba.”

A statement by the Police Spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said members of the group unlawfully barricaded roads, set bonfires, disrupted the free flow of traffic.

They also allegedly attacked police officers deployed to maintain law and order, the police added.

“Upon receiving the report, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the affected locations, and l successfully dispersed the group,” Babaseyi said in a statement made available to newsmen.

According to the police spokesman, exhibits recovered from the poo-Yoruba agitators included a Toyota Dyna vehicle used to convey the suspects, two broadcast speakers, a carton containing flags, shirts bearing inscriptions of their agitation, and banners displaying their messages and manifesto.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command’s words reassuring the residents of readiness to protect their lives and property, he said the police would not tolerate any act capable of breaching public peace.

According to him, any assault on police officers would be met with decisive action.
