We Support The US Airstrikes In Nigeria -Afenifere

We support the US airstrikes in Nigeria, targeted at ISIS terrorists in Nigeria’s North-West zone, Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group has said.

The organisation stated the stance in its reaction to the joint US-Nigeria military airstrikes aimed at forestalling long-standing targeting of Christians in the region by Islamic extremists.

It said that true sovereignty demanded a protection of citizens from unrelenting violence and that the joint strikes was a proof of the federal government’s determination to restore stability.

National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu who declared the group’s position also commended the Defence Headquarters’ confirmation that the Thursday’s strikes, executed with Nigerian government’s approval, were both timely and essential.

“At this critical juncture, the involvement of the United States in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations deserves recognition, not condemnation.

“True sovereignty is measured not by rhetoric but by the capacity to protect citizens, enforce the rule of law, and secure the nation’s borders,” he said in the statement.

Observing that the country had suffered a lot for too long in the hands of terrorists, the Afenifere representative expressed a relief that the US government had risen to the responsibility.

He called for a concerted action for the elimination of terrorism in the country saying it required both the government, citizens, and civil society collaboration.

The Eagle reports that US Congressman, Riley Moore, while reacting to the US airstrikes, had stated it would continue expect there was a cessation on attacks on Christians.

Speaking on Friday via his X handle, Moore said the strikes, conducted in coordination with the Nigerian government, marked “just the first step to ending the slaughter of Christians and the security crisis affecting all Nigerians.”

“President Trump has been clear that the killing of Christians in Nigeria must end.

“As I stated at the outset: Do not test President Trump‘s resolve in this matter,” the congressman added.
