Renowned Evangelist Uma Ukpai Passes On, Aged 80

Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement has lost one of its pillars –Reverend Uma Ukpai; he was aged 80.

A statement by his family, today, said the renowned evangelist passed on on October 6 2025, describing the passage as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted service to eternal rest.

“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity.

“His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come,” his family said.

The late evangelist was President of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association which had its base at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

A key member of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, he was also a leading light of the Christian faith, who devoted time to crusades in and out of the country.

A native of Asaga in Ohafia area of Abia State, lost his father at the age 10, and was exposed to challenging childhood afterwards.

He had usually referenced from those early beginings and encounter with Jesus Christ in admonishing the necessity of living for Christ.

The family while expressing gratitude to God for his impacful life on earth, say however, they rejoice in the realization that “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
