Medical Student Ends It All After Failing Exam 2wice

A medical student could not understand why he should fail an examination twice, and has thus called it quits with life.

The tragic incident which happened at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has left that university community stunned.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, which confirmed the tragic incident, identified the fellow as Ajibola Ibitayo , a Part-Two medical student,  with the matriculation number: DEN/2021/023

“The entire community of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been thrown into mourning following the death of a Part Two student of the Faculty of Dentistry.

“The student, identified as Ajibola Ibitayo (Matriculation Number: DEN/2021/023), committed suicide after learning that the results of the last semester examinations, released yesterday, would require him to repeat Part Two for another academic year.

“He had already been repeated Part Two during the last session.

“The student, whose father is a medical doctor, reportedly injected himself at his parents’ home in Ejigbo, Osun State,” the statement read partly.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has as a result, appealed to parents and guardians to let their wards know they could overcome temporary setbacks in life and achieve success at the end of the day.

For example, a University of Ilorin student from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), had last February taken his own life.

The student in 200 level took the step over hardship.

Last June, final year Computer Science student of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, Joshua Lawson, also took his own life.

He had been suspended for a year by the management for examination malpractice.

There is no better way to underscore the severity of this matter than the recent incidents cited above.
